Korsgaard's Commentary

Korsgaard's Commentary - From pop culture to popular opinion, and my life to the world at large

My dear readers, I can hardly believe it’s already been another year. On this day back in 2011, I made my first post on a newly born blog – today, Korsgaard’s Commentary turns 4.

I wouldn’t have believed making those first few bashful postings that Korsgaard’s Commentary would be going on and going strong years later. I’m proud to say those years have seen both myself, my writing style and the site improve in quality. I’m prouder still to see that the audience reading them has grown along with them, and to all of my readers, both you humble newcomers, and those of you who have stuck around from various points over the last four years, I want to thank each and every one of you. A writer is nothing without his readers after all.

That said, I’ll be the first to admit that the third year was a bit rougher than the ones that came before it. While the big effort this past year was originally going to be spent networking, expanding the amount of content on site, and getting more readers, things soon bogged down into a long streak of technical issues and hurdles on that front. Some of you I am well aware have experienced glitches or issues getting access to the site itself, and believe me, no one has been more frustrated by these issues than me. Topped off with several other issues such as content scrapers – a big reason some of you may have noticed articles being pulled from time to time – and an update to Google this past May that utterly changed the way SEO works, there has been a lot of behind the scenes difficulties that have acted as serious roadblocks, that by this point, I hope are finally getting behind us.

I can’t pin it all on technical difficulties or internet intricacies either – I will be the first to admit, having started at VCU in the last year, adapting to the heavier course load and extracurricular activities has taken some of my attention from the site, and I do want to apologize for that. While good for my grades, career and social life, understandably, the amount of attention given to Korsgaard’s Commentary has suffered, and I do mean it when I say that going into my senior year this fall, I aim to have plenty of time for both.

To that end, I’m kicking off the fourth year with some serious announcements – the biggest being that given the large amount of complaints and issues had with the current site design and format, in the next two to three months, there will be a ground-up redesign and revamp of Korsgaard’s Commentary. A few of the smaller changes some of you may have noticed already, but the format itself – at the moment, favoring either this or this format – will be overhauled completely in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled and feel free to make suggestions!

On that note, considering that I’m the first to admit my lack of an eye or hand for graphic design, if any more artistically inclined readers would like to design a banner or logo, or even just make aesthetic suggestions, please contact me at once, I’m more than willing to negotiate rates and give credit where its due. I do remain open to guest contributors as well – take a look at my list of pitch suggestions, but if you have an idea of your own, I’m happy to hear them.

I will also, after many months of delay, fighting over Fair Use, or simple behind the scenes squabbling, be re-launching my attempts at video blogging. Expect the first video to come out in mid-August – a few of my more devout readers might be able to guess what about – but from then on, keep an eye out for videos from then on, ranging from film reviews, interviews, to commentary on current events, to more spur of the moment videos as well, so stay tuned. Especially since some interesting developments here may come out in the next few months.

That said, there will be plenty of smaller things you may notice in the coming year, especially as I begin my long-overdue outreach plans. I’ll be talking about a much more diverse selection of topics, some deeply controversial. I’ll be taking on much more personal subjects, ranging from my writing career to issues I’m tackling in my personal life. I’ll be expanding it into much more than just a blog, but an entire platform for myself, my work and my various projects. I hope all of you will stick around and watch it happen.

The last year may not have been perfect, but I’ve never been one to give up because of a challenge or two. In the year ahead, I hope to see Korsgaard’s Commentary go bigger, braver, bolder, and more than anything, I want all of you, my dear readers, to join me as I make it happen. Now and always, thank you for reading Korsgaard’s Commentary!
